Description
This is a beautiful angular sofa designed by Harvey Probber in the 1960s. This design was part of his “Nuclear Sert” series which was influenced by the understated modern lines used by Spanish-born Architect Jose Luis Sert. The sofa is in overall good condition and includes nine down-filled pillows. It was custom ordered for a prominent NY estate and was featured in a New York Times article in the 1960s which showcased some of their other extraordinary collection including pieces by Philip & Kelvin Laverne and Paavo Tynell among others. We also have the custom two-tier Probber diamond coffee table shown in the images available separately which is a perfect match to the angles of the sofa.
This Nuclear series of sofas created by Probber were some of the most comfortable seating ever produced in this time period. They used 8-way hand tied spring over webbing with foam rubber cushions. They retain the straight lines of modern design that we all love so much but are comfortable enough to sleep on and built with heirloom quality construction and will last many lifetimes if properly cared for.
