Description
Early Handcrafted glass vase by Michael Harris for Mdina Glass on the Mediterranean Island of Malta. Signed Mdina on the base. Michael was inspired by the scenery of the island and the colors used in his work reflect the sun, sea and sand of the landscape. Michael Harris 1933 – 1994. Michael Harris, a lecturer in industrial glass design at the Royal College of Art – United Kingdom first came to Malta in 1968. Michael was driven by a desire to create something fresh away from the preconceptions that dominated the British glassmaking scene at the time. The early days of Mdina Glass, in fact, followed the studio glass movement that was then sweeping Europe. Instead of mass-produced factory designs, Mr Harris?s pieces were all made entirely by hand and each piece was unique. In 2012 Mdina Glass was invited to participate in an exhibition at Harrods, London entitled ?This Is Malta?. Mdina Glass has also won the National Artisan Award over two consecutive years.
