Exceptional pair of first-edition F580 lounge chairs designed by Pierre Paulin and manufactured by Artifort in the Netherlands. Among Paulin’s most sculptural seating designs, the F580 combines a dramatic architectural form with remarkable comfort.
Each chair has been completely restored with new foam and newly upholstered in a luxurious soft white Italian bouclé. Our upholstery team approaches the restoration of these complex forms much like a master tailor, carefully shaping and fitting the textile to preserve the fluid lines, proportions and sculptural character of Paulin’s original design. The resulting restoration is exceptionally well executed and suitable for even the most discerning collector or interior.
The F580 is particularly striking from every angle. Its continuous upholstered structure flows from the back into the arms and down toward the floor, creating the impression of a piece of sculpture while providing an enveloping and surprisingly generous seating position. Despite its visually compact form, the chair is exceptionally comfortable and even accommodates taller sitters particularly well.
These early examples were manufactured by Artifort in the Netherlands and represent one of Pierre Paulin’s most distinctive explorations of upholstered form.
