Description
This design was custom-ordered for the interior of Magasin du Nord’s department store in the 1950s. Few examples were produced and used in the retailer’s shoe department. This set of chairs comes from this collection.
They were custom made by Johannes Hansen circa 1951 and are similar to model JH 507 but they were made earlier and have different leather, thinner side rails, a shallower coat hanger front rail, low side stretchers, downward inclined armrests, exposed wood backs, and the back legs are angled at the seat rail.
Provenance: Magasin du Nord, Denmark Private collection
Two chairs have 2 wood bungs on the back and the other pair has 4 wood bungs on the back of each chair. Everything looks to be original. The holes where the chairs were bolted together at the shoe store were filled in with teak dowels at some point.
