Description
Rare Solid Ebony Norman Ridenour Sculpture. An homage to the female form, this abstract, exotic hardwood sculpture was carved by master wood turner and furniture craftsman Norman Ridenour. The form is exceptional from every angle and including the original brushed stainless steel base, it stands over five feet high. Ridenour only explored the medium of sculptures for a very short time in his career. His minimal aesthetic in tandem with his ability to bring out the very best qualities of each piece of wood truly makes this one of a kind heirloom quality piece exceedingly rare. Signed and dated Feb/1979. It was created only a few short years before he moved from his studio in San Diego to Prague. The title is ‘Pud’ which was the nickname of his studio assistant who the sculpture was secretly modeled after. This was the only time he ever explored this theme which was influenced by the bronzes of the Russian master Alexander Archipenko. From the collection of Doctor Irving Lipton. Base measures 24″ H. Sculpture measures 38.5″ H.
