Description
Someone heavily involved in the Mies catalogue raisonne project has personally confirmed that these chairs are in fact authentic Barcelona chairs manufactured by the German Company, Waldemar Stiegler, which produced the flat-steel furniture for Knoll International European market in the 1950’s. The chairs originated from the estate of Heinz and Mirka Nösselt in Berlin who were part of the Bauhaus. There is some speculation that these chairs could possibly be earlier but it seems the Stiegler attribution is what the majority consensus has ruled. The chairs are being sold as a pair and show quite a bit of character and patina. The leather looks to be original and has a nice amount of wear to it although the foam has been replaced. The included Tugendhat table is from the same collection although the glass is possibly not original but is older and shows its age.
The finish shows some heavy patina. Much of which could be cleaned off but due to the rarity of this set we have opted to leave them as original.
armchair: 29 x 31 x 31 in. (73.7 x 78.7 x 78.7 cm)
table: 18 1/2 x 38 1/4 x 38 1/4 in. (47 x 97.2 x 97.2 cm)
This is a stunning, rare and early set and really belongs in a museum. Please let us know if we can answer any further questions.
